Charles Moriarty is from Dublin, but moved to London at the age of 18. In 2003, he started working as a stills photographer in the music industry and on the London social scene.

Shortly after this, in 2004, he specialised in the field of Ocular medical illustration, and worked in numerous hospital's in Ireland and England. He was a specialist photographer at Moorfield's hospital from 2009 to 2012, running the paediatric photographic department.

He has worked with Amy Winehouse, Hercules and Love affair, the TATE, BFC, USB, VICE, DIESEL, KTZ, Aitor Throup, Damon Albarn, 1814 magazine, Flaunt magazine, High Snobiety, Lee Roach, Benjamin O'Mahoney, Phoenix magazine, Natt&Dag, METRO and many more.

In 2014 he worked for Lucas Film, as stills dept manager on Star Wars episode VII, The Force Awakens.

In 2017 he self published his first book, Before Frank, revealing for the first time many of his unpublished photographs of Amy Winehouse. In 2018 the book is was republished by Octopus Publishing, under the new title, Back to Amy, on October 4th, with over 50 new photos added and insightful interviews with people close to Amy, like her mum Janis. In 2020 he published the highly acclaimed X; ten years of photographing men, which was followed shortly after in 2021 by Photographers on the Art of Photography published by ACC art books.

His work is part of the permanent collection at the National Portrait Gallery. In 2022 Charles was short listed for the British journal of Photography’s Portrait of Humanity and his work was selected as part of the Royal Hibernian Academy’s summer show in Ireland. He is represented by Iconic images and The little Black Gallery's BOYS! BOYS! BOYS!
